California Governor, Gavin Newsom, wants to renegotiate the US Constitution for his state, the basis of his appeal being that the state’s “population is mostly Mexicans so Constitutional powers and laws can hardly apply here.”
The announcement came immediately after President Trump announced ICE raids on major cities in the USA. Without the Mexicans in California, the states population would be devastated and its economy would follow. Combine that with President Trump’s vow to cut off federal funding to the state because he doesn’t like them and California would be in ruins.
What he wants is to have constitutional and federal law be disabled for his state. But he doesn’t want to succeed. Rather, he seeks to have California designated a “distinct society”, where they would have exemptions from the laws that apply to the rest of the country. They would continue to pay taxes but but then “cherry pick” how specifically they wish to conform to the rest of the country.
Governor Newsom feels this is a fit for a California because, as he says, they are “America’s elite” :
“This is California. My state. I am rich beyond belief. I have more wealth in the state than 99% of the countries in the world. I provide 1/7 of the national GDP in this country. Were America to lose us, America would be destroyed economically.
But I’m a reasonable guy. I won’t just straight up leave the country. Instead I offer this alternative. Treat us like the princes we are. We are Americas royalty and we deserve to have perks fitting to that status.”
The arrogance on this guy is astounding. Just go away California. We don’t need you.
