Major Hollywood television studios are very fond of rebooting old classics to fit a new audience. The latest? The tale of the Duke brothers in Hazzard County and their relationship with the law. “The Dukes of Hazzard” is making a return will a whole new look. And I mean completely different.
For starters, the General Lee - the orange 1969 Dodge Charger that was the true star of the show - will no longer have a traditional confederate flag on its roof top. No, that has been replaced by a revamped confederate flag, all rainbow colours with a pink ‘x’ running through it.
Luke and Bo, the brothers Duke, will be getting the most extreme transformations, going from the handsome and strapping young men we saw in the original show, to cowboy hat and bottomless chaps wearing drag queens. No longer will they be Bo and Luke. Now they’re Bo Peep and Lupina, divas of the trans-club stage.
The remaining characters will be similarly changed. Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane will be played by the police uniform wearing former star of the Village People, and Clay Aiken his submissive deputy, Enos. Boss Hogg, the portly, male mayor of Hazzard, will be swapped out with the svelte and female lesbian comedienne, Ellen Degeneres. Wise old Uncle Jesse will be made over as Elton John.
And the last of the main characters, the lovely Daisy Duke, will now be played by Rosie O’Donnell, still clad in her signature short shorts.
Changes in plot twists have not been announced but if the character reassignments are any indication, those too should be extensive and fabulous.
